Arthur will send in the writeup, as the manager of the team that sweeps has earned the privilege of doing. UCity was close in most of the games, but BDM's pitching is just too tough, and the Anunnaki manager had the anti-Midas touch when it came to the bullpen.

Thanks for heading this up, Greg, and thanks everyone for a great year. I will be back in for whatever we end up doing next year.

UCA vs BDM 2019 LCS

G1 Pineda vs deGrom at Yankee Stadium

Uncharacteristic poor start for deGrom, allowing a Sano 3-run HR in the 4th, and 2-run Alonso bomb in the 6th to put BDM down 5-1. Home team scratched one in the 6th, but left the bases loaded, and trailed 5-2 going into the bottom of the 8th. BDM came back stringing together 2 walks, 3 singles, and a sac fly to plate 4, and take the lead. In the 9th we gave it right back. Anthony Bass walked Byron Buxton, and a SB and sac bunt and a JD Davis single quickly tied the game. In the bottom of the 10th Jonathan Villar led off for BDM with a single, and promptly stole 2nd. After two quick outs, Canha legged out an IF single, and Ketel Marte grounded a single to left to win the game.

W - Wheeler, L Brice, HR - Alonso, Sano

G2 Fiers vs Kershaw

Back and forth game. BDM strikes first in the 2nd with a Choi double, and two productive outs. UCA takes the lead in the 4th on a Davis single, Kelly double, and Sano single (UCA up 2-1). BDM tied it immediately, as Fiers lost the zone. Two BB and a Villar single plated one, but we left the bases loaded (2-2). In the 7th Trey Mancini homered to up UCA up 3-2, and it stayed that way til the 8th. Arenado led off with a single, followed by a Villar walk, and an Osuna single to tie the game. A Canha sac fly plated the 4th run, and Gott worked around a HBP in the 9th to close out UCA.

G3 Wheeler vs Lucchesi at Minute Maid Field

Annunaki strike first with a walk, ground out and JD Davis RBI single in the 1st. Then the pitchers settled in to an old fashioned duel, and the game remained 1-0 UCA through 5. In the 7th Lucchesi lost it. He walked Phegley, but he was quickly erased when the pinch runner was caught stealing. He then walked Springer and Nola, and PH Choi made him pay with a deep homer to right. Yanks tacked on two more in the 7th, and Wheeler, Bass, and Dyson shut down UCA

W - Wheeler 2-0, L -Lucchesi, SV - Dyson, HR - Choi

G4 Gallen vs Smith

Another tight game. BDM went up 1-0 in the 1st on a Villar HR, and 2-0 on a Springer HR in the 4th. UCA got one back in the 5th on a walk, WP and Mancini double. The teams traded runs in the 5th, and went to the 9th with BDM leading 3-2. BDM added three in the top of the 9th, to ice the win.

BDM wins 4-0

Mike was definitely let down by his bullpen, and deserved to win at least one or two.

Go Chinook!

Two 100 win teams got together in this half of the NL bracket. Burlington's high-scoring offense vs. Thunder Bay's stellar rotation looking to defend their TRHL league title from 2018.

G1: Firedogs break out early scoring 3 in the 2nd of Gerrit Cole. Max Muncy walked and then scored on Eric Thames' two run bomb. Nick Ahmed hit a solo shot two batters later to put BFD up 3-0. Domingo German allowed single Chinook tallies in the 2nd and 4th, but managed to strand 6 runners in his 4 innings of work. Kyle Schwarber took Cole deep in the 6th to make it 4-2 BFD. The FireDogs pen got the job done only an unearned run in the 8th. Brandon Kintzler worked a 1-2-3 9th for the save to Trey Wingenter's win. Cole took the loss. Burlington 4-3.

G2: Again BFD took the lead in the 2nd, again on a two run homer by Thames, this time off Sonny Gray. However, the Chinook rallied in the bottom of the frame on a 3-run HR from Michael Conforto. Anthony DeSclafani settled down until the 5th before allowing another 3-run HR this time from Max Kepler to make it 6-2 Thunder Bay. Gray got into a jam in the 6th, exiting w/ the bases loaded, but Nick Anderson worked out of it allowing only 1 FireDog run. It remained 6-3 into the top of the 9th, when Enrique Hernandez and Brett Gardner each reached base before Chinook closer Kirby Yates came in to douse the rally flames. Thunder Bay 6-3.

G3: While the location had changed, G3 started similarly to the first 2 games. FireDogs took an early 2-0 lead on solo homers by Tom Murphy (3rd) and Carlos Santana (4th). Lefty Brett Anderson had worked around several early jams before getting let down by his defense in the 5th. Schwarber dropped a fly ball out in LF and two unearned runs scored when Kepler drove in Ben Gamel and Alex Bregman. It was still tied at 2 apiece in the top of the 7th when Kintzler walked Bregman and Kepler to start the inning. Conforto got the clutch 2 RBI single to make it 4-2 Chinook. Bregman's three run shot in the 8th broke the game open. Meanwhile Berrios was cruising and got w/in one out of a CG before yielding w/ two out in the 9th. Thunder Bay 7-3.

G4: Miles Mikolas struggled from the start in G4. Bregman tripled in a run and Cavan Biggio hit a 3-run HR in the 2nd as the Chinook bolted out to an early 5-1 lead. Aaron Nola kept the BFD bats at bay through 7.2 and Yasmani Grandal and Bregman both played add on with homers. Burlington got 2 in the bottom of the 9th but TBC held on and moved one game away from advancing. Thunder Bay 8-3.

G5: German and Cole were back as starters and after two scoreless frames, Brandon Belt and Bregman homers staked the visitors from Thunder Bay to a 3-0 lead in the T3. Gardner and Murphy singles enabled a marker for the FireDogs in B3, but then Cole settled in, striking out 12 before leaving Yates with a jam to wriggle out of in B8. Yates closed it out by striking out the side in the 9th. Thunder Bay 4-1.

Burlington's offense just couldn't get going, over 25% of their hits in the series were HRs, but they only hit .145 as a team over the 5 games. Hard to single out any particular TBC hurler for acclaim as they all pitched well. So, we'll give Bregman the series MVP who after an 0-9 start, rallied to slug two triples and 3 homers in his last 12 ABs.

The Forsyth Outlaws best the Siskiyou Rotisserie in six. My distaste for using injuries increases.

Game One Outlaws 3-0. Verlander facing Buehler. With two outs in the top of the second Buehler goes down with injury, and is out for the next ten days. Rotisserie use just about all of our bullpen, and though we put up a good fight, the offense just can[t make anything happen, as we get only two hits on the day. Verlander goes 6, striking out 11 against only 2 walks, and the Outlaws parade of relievers doesn't so much allow a hit. Chapman and Garver both homer, the latter foreshadowing the onslaught that will follow.

Game Two Rotisserie 6-3. With Giolito on the hill Siskiyou claws back after being down early, with a three run 8th the margin for victory. After the visiting Rotisserie briefly held a 1-0 lead from JT Realmuto's leadoff home run, the Outlaws scored three times in the 2nd, via Garver's second home run of the series, this time with Pence and Chapman on base via a single and a double. The 3-1 score held until both starters left after the 5th inning. In the 6th Rotisserie made it a one run game, as Shoemaker came in to relieve Miley and was greeted by a Heyward single and a Newman PH double, scoring Heyward from first. In the 7th they (we) tied it up as Grinkel came in to pitch. The same pair came through, with the help of a leadoff single from Grossman. After Realmuto and Bogearts hit into outs Heyward again singled, and though Newman only managed a single this time, it was enough to score Grossman and tie the game. In the 8th the Rotisserie finally put a crooked number on the scoreboard, and all with two outs. Hechevarria and Grossman walked against Ottavino, and then Petit gave up three straight singles to Realmuto, Bogearts, and Heyward before retiring Newman. Siskiyou turned to Hader in the 8th, who gave up a leadoff double to Olson (the lefty, of course) before striking out Correa, Zimmerman, and Chapman. Hader stayed on to start he 9th by striking out Garver, surrendering a double to Chris Taylor, and striking out Danny Santana. Osuna came on to retire Marisnick on a pop out and get the save.

Game Three: Rotisserie 3-2. Thornton versus Stroman. Rotisserie score single runs in the 2nd and 3rd, with three singles in a row, and then a Heyward homer as he continues to hit well. Stroman got into trouble in the third, giving up a one-out hit to the pitcher followed by a double from Kiermaier, but he got a line-out from LeMahieu and struck out Olson to strand the runners. Otherwise Stroman breezed. I probably should have taken him out after six, but fearful of my bullpen usage situation I left him in. Outlaws almost made me pay. Stroman walked Pence, gave up a double to Seager, and a run scoring single to Chapman before I came to my senses and brought in Wendelken. Unfortunately my reliever plunked Correa, PHing for McCann, but struck out Garver (a mild miracle), before plunking in a run by hitting Taylor. He struck out LeMahieu and Olson to end the inning and hold on to the lead. Again Hader pitched the 0th, striking out Santana, Pence, and Chapman, while hitting Seager for the third HBP in two innings. This time Osuna started the 9th, getting Zimmerman on a ground out, giving up mercifully just a single to Garver, then a fielder's choice from Chris Taylor. A LaMahieu single put the tying run into scoring position, but Osuna got Olson to fly out and Siskiyou earned a 2-1 lead in the series.

Game Four Outlaws 3-2. Outlaws get their chance to come from behind and win a one-run game, scoring twice off the Rotisserie bullpen. Siskiyou gets it started against Verlander with the usual suspects, as Newman doubles and Heyward homers to put us up 2-0. Forsyth quickly makes it a one-run game off of Gio Gonzalez as Pence reaches on an error by Aledmys Diaz at second, and then after a Chapman strikeout Danny Santana hits a double to plate Pence. The score holds at 2-1 as both both starters exit, Gio after four, and Verlander after six, wracking up 10 Ks against 1 BB. The Rotisserie bullpen has been a major asset all year, but on this day they fail, as Wendelken gives up single runs in the 8th and the 9th. First Garver greets him with another home run. Then in the 9th Olson leads off with a homer to give the Outlaws their 3-2 lead. Siskiyou goes down easily in the 9th, though I accidentally let Coonrod hit for the third out, so maybe in an alternate universe Casali or someone hits a PH HR to tie, or better, starts a two-out rally to win. In this universe the series is now tied at 2 games each.

Game Five Outlaws 4-1. In a critical game for Siskiyou Giolito stumbles just enough, and the Rotisserie offense struggles to score runs off of Forsyth starter Miley. Forsth scores twice in the 2nd off of a Matt Chapman triple, plating Marisnick and LeMahieu, then adds a third run the next inning as Garver hits his fourth home run of the series. Rotisserie breaks up the shutout in the 6th as Longoria singles in Bogearts, who doubled to lead off the inning, but couldn't manage more. Garver adds another homer for good measure in the 8th.

Game Six Outlaws 8-4. Stroman gets beat around and Rotisserie can't do enough against a tired Outlaws bullpen as Forsyth wins the series. Outlaws took control of the game in the 3rd, scoring four runs as both Hunter Pence and Seager hit two run homers. Rotisserie cuts the lead in half in the next inning thanks to walks and singles, then briefly makes it a one-run game in the 5th, as Riley homers, but Forsyth regains their two run margin in the next inning with Matt Olson homering to chase Stroman. Forsyth adds a two run Santana triple in the 7th. Robles homers in the 8th to scratch back, but bottom of the inning the Outlaws add anther run as Garver, apparently bored of home runs, tries out a run scoring double. The Siskiyou season ends with a double play from Xander Bogaerts.

Garver is the no-doubt MVP of the series, slashing .450/.476/1.250 with a double and 5 home runs.

Losing Buehler in Game One was pretty brutally demoralizing. We elected to bring up another reliever in place of a starter, and I'm not sure that was the right move. It meant short rest for the second half of the series, and perhaps that's why Stroman struggled. Then again, any starter I brought up would have been very bad. That said, we did at least force a Game Six, and for the most part played pretty good baseball, so I'm not too bummed.

When I told my wife that I had lost a playoff series in all three of my leagues this year, she said "You're such a loser."

Maine and Sanchez (1-0), at home, take the opener 6-3 lead by Narvaez (3-4, 3 RBI, 1 HR) over Glasnow (0-1) although served as an opener and gave up 2 runs (including Narvaez HR) in the 1st inning.

Gonzalez (1-0) provided 7 solid innings, Narvaez hit another HR and scumbag picks up Save 2 as Maine beats Woodruff (0-1) and Portland 5-2.

After an off day to travel to the left coast Keuchel (0-1) and Morton both give up an early run before settling into a pitchers' duel. In the bottom of the 7th, Keuchel walked Freese before allowing him to get to second on a wild pitch. After striking out Sogard Keuchel was relaced by Baez off of whom Devers lined a double to right center scoring Freese and making a winner out of Webb (1-0) and Portland. Both squads managed to leave a combined 20 runners on base in this 2-1 game.

Game 4 found Lopez starting and pitching well for Maine giving up 1 run in 5 innings before getting pulled with a pitch count of 105 ... meanwhile Maine hit Gonsolin hard scoring 5 runs in 4 innings. Portland's toughened up shutting out Maine over the last 5 innings while Maine's melted down with Alvarez allowing 3 runs in 1.1 IP and the scumbag (0-1) allowing 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to lose 6-5.

Starting the last game on the left coast for this series Sanchez (2-0) threw 125 pitches allowing 6 runs in 8-plus innings for Maine while Glasnow (0-2) lasted 4.1 (91 pitches) innings allowing 4 runs for Portland. The teams combined for 9 runs in the last 3 innings but Maine prevailed 8-6 as ther had 4 HRs to Portland's 1 HR.

Moving back to Maine after another travel day with a 3-2 lead, Maine started Gonzalez while Portland countered with Woodruff who was lights out striking out 9 in 5 innings before exiting after 95 pitches and down 4-3. Kendrick hit a 3 run HR in the 3rd delivering a key hit for Maine. Without getting a hit Portland tied it up 4-4 in the top of the 9th. Both teams scored a run apiece in the 11th. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 12th Naquin hit thre game wiining HR off of Gant (0-1) making a winner out of Vazquez (1-1) who had struck out 7 batters in 2.2 IP while throwing 51 pitches. He would not have come for the 13th nor would he have been available to pitch in game 7, if necessary.
